The Carrera 290, designed by Hakan Sodergren, came out in 1992. In 1995, it was redesigned as the Carrera 280. The 280 has the same hull as the 290, but the stern is shortened 15 inches. The 280 keel is 5 inches deeper than the 290. The 280 rig was redesigned with a retractable sprit/no backstay rig. Two 280s were built.

In 2000, Casey Yachts of Freeport, Maine bought the mold and produced a Casey 29 that had the hull of the 290 and the keel and rig of the 280.
