Alden 44 Variants

The Alden 44 was originally made with a large skeg in front of the rudder. The propellor was in a large aperture in the skeg. This aperture ruined the flow around the rudder. Many of the later Alden 44s were built with the skeg removed and the propellor on an exposed shaft. This reduced the wetted surface by about 10 square feet.
